Every workplace runs on two things: caffeine and unspoken rules. Break the first and people get tired. Break the second and people start a group chat without you in it.

We've compiled the definitive ranking of coworker sins, each rated on our proprietary Drama Index — a scientifically dubious scale measuring exactly how much conflict each offense deserves. Read it. Argue with it. That's the whole point.

Tier One: Mildly Annoying, Mostly Forgivable

The Loud Typer. Every keystroke sounds like a woodpecker with a grudge. Nobody confronts them. Everybody knows who it is. Drama Index: 2/10. This is a headphones problem, not a HR problem.

The Back-to-Back Meeting Streamer. Their calendar is a solid wall of blue. They're not rude, they're just never available. Ever. Drama Index: 1/10. You cannot fight a calendar. It always wins.

The Reply-All Historian. They respond to all 47 recipients to say 'thanks!' The thread grows. The thread always grows. Drama Index: 3/10. Deserves a strongly worded Slack emoji at most.

Tier Two: Now You're Testing People

The Thermostat Lobbyist. They've stationed a desk fan directly over the vent in July and personally adjusted the dial four times before 10 a.m. Drama Index: 6/10. This one has ended actual friendships. Possibly the most contested entry on this list.

The Meeting Duplicator. You scheduled a 15-minute sync. They showed up with a 12-slide deck. Drama Index: 5/10. Not malicious, but time is the one thing you can't put back in the corral — wait, wrong article.

The Fridge Arsonist. Their leftovers have been in the communal refrigerator so long they've developed a legal residency claim. The container is unmarked. The contents are unidentifiable. Everyone is afraid to touch it. Drama Index: 7/10. Deserves drama. Possibly deserves a funeral.

Tier Three: Crimes Against the Break Room

The Microwaved Fish Incident. Look — salmon is delicious. Salmon is not delicious at 11:47 a.m. in a shared kitchen with recirculated air and a conference room full of people trying to discuss Q3 projections. Drama Index: 9/10. Some offices have literally banned it. Those offices are correct.

The Speakerphone Wanderer. They take calls on full volume while pacing the hall, narrating their personal life to the entire floor. Nobody consented to this podcast. Drama Index: 8/10. The drama is deserved and overdue.

The Supply Ghost. The printer's out of ink. The good pens have vanished. The last packet of emergency instant oatmeal — gone. No one sees them take anything. No one ever will. Drama Index: 7/10. You can't fight what you can't catch.

Tier Four: Betrayal. Pure Betrayal.

The Dish Deflector. There is a sink. There is a sponge right there. They have chosen violence. Drama Index: 8/10.

The Last-Slice Liberator. There was one donut in the box. Everyone saw it. Everyone was being polite. They were not. Drama Index: 10/10. This is the one that gets discussed at happy hour for a full fiscal quarter.

The Point of It All

Here's the thing about office sins: they're never really about the fish or the donut. They're about the social contract — the invisible agreement that we'll all make tiny sacrifices so 40 strangers can share 12,000 square feet without descending into chaos.

Break the contract and nobody says anything, because we're professionals. But the resentment? The resentment is load-bearing.

So tell us: which entry is too harsh? Which one didn't go far enough? And most importantly — what did we forget? Because you know we forgot something, and you've been dying to complain about it.

Drop your worst coworker story in the squabbles. Names withheld. Judgments not.
